Hi everyone! I feel alarmed by the situation of our wildlife nowadays. It seems that all wild animals are going to lost wa few years from now because of the wrong doing of people. For me, we should take care of wild life as we take good care of our environment.
It really felt sad everytime I am hearing new about endangered species and the decreasing population of wild animals. I remember, when my friends and I are doing our custom term papers, one of my interviewee asked me that why should we take care of these wild animals if they only bring danger to people. I just simply said that they are also the creationof God and that the balance of nature will lost if we won't take care of them. Even I told him that it seems that he is not convinced. That is really the problem with us, we only care for ourselves and if those things does not matter to us, we take them for granted.
I am not really good in paper writing but whenever I think of that problem I always wanted to write and tell the whole world my ideas and suggestion on how we can help in saving the remaining wild animals.
This years seal pup hunt has come to an end with a big reduction in the numbers of cubs killed. The quota for the year had been set at over 270,00 but in the end only 70,000 were killed.
The world economic crisis particularly in Russia - the biggest market for seal fur - has played it's role in reducing the numbers killed. The value of the fur has dropped to as low as $12 a pelt, much lower than the $90-$100 dollars a pelt just a few years ago. But it's not just the economic crisis that has brought about the sharp reduction in the market and price. The EU is about to introduce a ban on seal products and that will remove a small but affluent market for seal pelts.
For the local fishermen who undertake the cull, this is going to be the start of a difficult time for them. Without the income of the pelts and reducing fish stock due to overfishing the local economy is going to have to find a more stable and sustainable way of continuing. In the Canadain far north this is not going to be an easy situation for the government to deal with.
